the big unit.

The new Mac Pro, Apple’s biggest pro update in 8 years. We completely overhauled our main DIT cart used for transcoding, data management and live color. At it’s heart is the new Mac Pro tower, in the fully-optimized configuration for video rendering tasks. This beast is ready to chew through your footage when a fully shot card is handed to it at camera wrap. No matter the edit/dailies specs or resolution, this system will save time and money for your production.

a hot knife through butter.

  • Alexa Mini LF ARRIRAW 4.5k Open Gate transcode renders at 112  frames per second to HD ProRes

  • ALEXA Mini/AMIRA transcode renders at increased 4x speed than before, going from source ProRes4444 3.2k to HD ProRes at around 260 fps

  • ARRIRAW 2.8k renders at increased 5x speed than before, 250 fps transcoding to HD ProRes

  • RED Camera renders at nearly 2.5x speed than before, 115 fps transcoding to HD ProRes from 5K Red RAW

  • Phantom Camera renders at 7-8x speed than before, 300+ fps transcoding to HD ProRes from 4k Cine Raw

  • Dailies that require 4k outputs will still benefit and will be much faster and will incur much less overtime

  • Camera magazine offloads can now be transferred at the maximum speed allowed by the camera media in some cases, including Alexa Mini LF’s Codex Compact Drives at 980 MB/sec over USB-C to our SSD-based RAID

the specs.

  • Intel Xeon W 3.2GHz 16-Core CPU (Up from Intel Xeon X5690 3.46GHz Dual 6-Core CPUs
)

  • 386 GB RAM (Up from 64 GB)

  • AMD RADEON Pro Vega II Duo 32GB dual GPU card for Davinci Resolve rendering acceleration (Up from an Nvidia Titan BLACK GPU)

  • Apple Afterburner ProRes accelerator card for ProRes encoding/decoding, increasing renders by 50+ fps in ProRes workflows

  • RED Rocket-X accelerator card for RED workflows

  • 32TB 8-Bay SSD-based Thunderbolt 3 RAID data storage with speeds up to 2200 MB/s. This is HUGE for increasing both data transfer rates and rendering speeds, especially with very large, highly uncompressed formats like Phantom CINE and ARRIRAW (For reference, our old RAID was 500 MB/s and most single external drives are around 150 MB/s)

  • Resolve Studio 17 software for dailies, optimized to use Apple’s latest METAL graphics API

  • Eight Thunderbolt 3 ports, functioning at 40Gbps, 8x times the speed of USB 3.0, while remaining backwards compatible with USB-C and USB 3 devices and drives

additional intel.

  • Industry-leading Silverstack data management software for faster transfers and more robust data report options

  • 24" Flanders DM250 OLED monitor for reference monitoring

  • FOUR on-cart SmallHD 702 multi-function waveform monitors

  • Flanders BoxIO LUT devices, allowing live color grading in LiveGrade for multiple cameras at once in real-time

  • Tangent Wave coloring panel

  • Blackmagic 12x12 Smart Videohub for video distribution on set

  • Honda 2000w Generator for location shoots

  • Blackout or Shaded DIT Tent (6’x’6 Blackout, 8’x8’ Blackout or 6’x6’ Shade/Screen available)

the business.

No matter the camera system, whether ALEXA, Sony Venice, Phantom or RED, the DIT Cart rate will now be standardized between all formats at $650/day. No more up charges for RED shoots. The RED Rocket-X card (valued at $6,750) is now included, at no cost, with every rental.

Older-style "trash can" 2012 Mac Pro computers will not be able to use Thunderbolt 3 technology, the new Apple Afterburner card or the most up-to-date AMD graphic cards which are helpful in achieving these huge performance gains.
